The Norwegian Forest Cat originated as the name implies in Norway where they are known as skogkatt/skaukatt (dependant on the regions dialect) skog or skau being the Norwegian translation of forest and katt simply translates to cat. The formal term is Norsk Skogkatt (Norwegian Forest Cat).
Norwegian Forest Cats have a beautiful friendly nature and absolutely love human company especially children. They are also extremely intelligent and playful cats and can be taught, quite easily, to perform tricks and routines.
The typical features of the norwegian forest cat (sometimes nicknamed as weegies) are long tufts of hair in their ears and between their toes.
The cats also have a double layered luxurious coat and a long bushy tail that protects them from the cold in their native land Norway.
The double layered coat consists of a dense underlayer and water repellant top layer and they have a summer and winter wardrobe!
The coat does not fully develop until the cats reach their fourth year. Unlike most long haired cat breeds the forest cats coat does not require a lot of maintenance, just an occasional brushing.
Weegies are a large breed of cat, with the toms weighing between 6 – 10kg, the queens weigh in at slightly less. Their back legs are longer than their front legs and their tail should reach to at least their shoulder.
Introducing Norwegian Forest Cats Ash & Cassie…
So now it’s time to hand you over to the stars of the site Ash & Cassie…
Hi, my names Ash and I’m a boy, black/smoke norwegian forest cat.
I’m quite laid back compared to my sister Cassie (I think she’s a bit crazy!!).
I prefer to take things easy and like to think things out before rushing in, but I must admit on occasions I can be a little bit mischievous.
You’ll get a chance to see our different characters in all the videos, we’ll explain how you can watch our videos and view our picture gallery a little later.
So now I’ll hand you over to my crazy sister…
Hi, and my names Cassie, I’m a girl, brown classic tabby Norwegian Forest Cat.
Whatever Ash says about me, don’t believe it… I’m not crazy at all, I’m just a bit more curious and adventurous than him.
I love to play hard and put all my energy into the things I do…
My brother is lazier than me, I end up washing him loads more than I get back!!
Our new Mum & Dad’s family and friends, keep asking them about how we’re getting on and want to see lots of pics of us. So to make it easier for them to follow our progress we set up this site…
In The Beginning…
Our story starts off when our new 2legged Mum & Dad arrived to fetch us. One moment we were running around with our brothers and sisters, the next we were put into a cage and whisked off in a car…
It seemed we were in the car for ages, going down twisty country lanes and both of us felt a little queasy. In fact, when we arrived at our new house, we both needed a bit of a wash and brush up!!!
It was all very tiring and when we were placed on a nice comfy chair we both had a deserved cat nap, you can see what happened next by watching the video…
